In France, the toll is based on the actual height (without superstructures) and actual weight of the vehicle at the toll station.
For motorhomes, a height of 3 metres and a weight of 3.5 tonnes are decisive. If both values are exceeded, a Toll Box is required for large and heavy vehicles, according to the toll operator.
In practice, however, there is a certain tolerance: you only need the ‘Large Toll Box’ if you weigh more than 4.5 tonnes and/or are over 3.05 metres high.
Examples:
4.5 tonnes and 2.95 metres -> ‘Small Toll Box’ works
4.6 tonnes and 2.95 metres -> ‘Large Toll Box’ works
4.2 tonnes and 3.05 metres -> ‘Small Toll Box’ works
4.2 tonnes and 3.06 metres -> ‘Large Toll Box’ works
Measured is:
Pure vehicle height, superstructures do not count.
Actual weight while travelling, not permissible total weight.
More than 2 axles:
Vehicles with at least 3 axles always require the ‘Large Toll Box’, regardless of height and weight. A tandem axle is measured as one axle in France.
(For the ‘Large Toll Box’, the data from the vehicle licence must be provided for Austria).
Trailer included? - Not relevant for the selection of the Toll Box.
These examples are recommendations without guarantee, as categorisation takes place automatically at the toll station. Please check your vehicle documents to determine the appropriate Toll Box. Many newer motorhomes and campers remain under 3 metres.

Simply drive to the specified collection point.
You can collect your ‘Small Toll Box Standard’ there using the barcode from your order confirmation email.
Please assemble the ‘Small Toll Box Standard’ according to the enclosed instructions and travel to your holiday (Italy, France, Spain, Portugal) without any traffic jams or stress.
The Toll Box is already activated on receipt and ready for immediate use. Installing our Toll Box is simple and straightforward. This is how you proceed:
Find the right place for the Toll Box on your windscreen.
Clean the corresponding spot on the windscreen.
Press the holder with the adhesive spot onto the windscreen.
Important notes on installation
If you have a coated windscreen, it is essential to fit the Toll Box in the uncoated recess (see vehicle manual). This is usually marked by a dotted area. For motorhomes with an alcove and without a coated/heated windscreen, we recommend attaching it to the centre of the windscreen approx. 15 cm above the dashboard.
The Toll Box from maut1.de can of course also be used with a motorbike. We recommend stowing the Toll Box (protected from rain and cold) in a tank bag on the motorbike so that it is facing forwards in the direction of travel.
You can use your toll box as short or as long as you like. If you no longer need the toll box, simply return it (please with tracking) to the following address:

The toll fees incurred when passing through the toll stations are separate costs and will be charged additionally. You don't have to do anything further. We will settle all toll fees incurred on your trip via your stored payment method; in case of overlap between return and invoicing, we can also charge toll fees after termination.
Small Toll Box Standard
The annual rental fee covers the provision for the toll box but not the individual toll fees.
If you keep the toll box for more than one year, the contract is automatically extended by another year.
If you return the toll box early, a partial refund of the annual fee is not possible.
Small Toll Box Premium
The monthly rental fee covers the provision for the toll box but not the individual toll fees.
This is an annual contract that is billed monthly until the end of the first contract year, even after return. After the first contract year, the cancellation period changes to monthly, and the monthly fees will no longer be charged after return.
If you return the toll box early, a partial refund of monthly fees is not possible.

The network of the route operator HAC in Croatia is not covered by a ‘Standard Toll Box for vehicles up to 3 metres high’ from the manufacturer ‘Axxès’.
The manufacturer is printed on your Toll Box and can also be recognised by the serial number on the narrow side of the Toll Box, starting with "03...“.
The ‘Toll Box for vehicles over 3 metres high’ is alsonot activated for Croatia !
Only if you have a ‘Toll Box for vehicles up to 3 metres high’ from the manufacturer ‘Telepass ’ can it be used on the routes of the operator HAC in Croatia (recognisable by the lettering “TELEPASS” on the toll box or by the serial number on the narrow side of the Toll Box, starting with ‘000490...’).

Without a Toll Box in Croatia, a ticket is taken when entering the motorway and the toll costs incurred are paid in cash or by credit card when leaving the motorway. The amount of the motorway toll depends on the distance travelled and the respective vehicle category.
Car
Vehicles with a total height of over 1.9 metres are classified in a higher class. However, superstructures, such as roof boxes, are not included in this classification.
Vehicles with trailers
Cars, buses and lorries are classified according to the number of axles (≤/> 2, 3, 4), the weight of the towing vehicle (≤/> 3.5 t) and the vehicle height (≤/> 1.9 m).
Motorhomes
Motorhomes are classified according to the number of axles (≤/> 2, 3, 4), the permissible gross vehicle weight (≤/> 3.5 t) and the vehicle height (≤/> 1.9 m).
