Mounting the toll box
The toll box is already activated upon receipt and ready for immediate use. The installation of our toll box is simple and uncomplicated. This is how you proceed:
- Attach the bracket to the toll box.
- Clean the relevant area on the windscreen* where the toll box is to be attached.
- Remove the protective film from the adhesive strip.
- Press the holder with the adhesive spot against the windscreen.
In the case of a coated windscreen, it is mandatory to fit the toll box in the uncoated recess (see vehicle manual). This is usually marked by a dotted area. For camper vans with alcoves and without a coated/heated windscreen, we recommend mounting it centrally approx. 15 cm above the dashboard on the windscreen.
The calculations regarding tolls in France depend on the size and weight of your vehicle.
Especially for motorhomes, the height of 3 meters and a weight of 3.5 tons becomes relevant here. Because from a height of more than 3 meters and a weight of more than 3.5 tons, a different toll box is officially required. In practice, however, it has been shown that there is a certain fuzziness in the measurement. As a result, only vehicles that weigh significantly more than 3.5 tonnes and are over 3 metres high require a toll box for large vehicles.
To clarify this for you:
- Vehicle weighs 4.5 tonnes and is 2.95 metres high -> the toll box for vehicles up to 3 metres works
- Vehicle weighs 4.6 tonnes and is 2.95 metres high -> the toll box for vehicles over 3 metres will work
- Vehicle weighs 4.2 tonnes and is 3.05 metres high -> the toll box for vehicles up to 3 metres will work
- Vehicle weighs 4.2 tonnes and is 3.06 metres high -> the toll box for vehicles over 3 metres will work
For the height of your vehicle, the mere vehicle height is measured, superstructures are not to be taken into account.
- Since the vehicle class in France is based on the actual vehicle data, the actual weight of your vehicle while driving through the toll stations also counts here - not the maximum permissible total weight.
- If the towing vehicle has at least 3 axles, you will need the "toll box for motorhomes and vehicles over 3 metres high", regardless of height and weight. Data of a trailer are irrelevant when deciding which toll box is needed.
- Trailers are recognised at the relevant points on site, which automatically adjusts the toll payable. Trailers have no influence on the selection of the toll box type.
Please note: These examples are only recommendations from us, we do not give any guarantee, as vehicles are classified automatically at the toll station.
Please check the relevant vehicle documents to make sure which toll box variant you require. There are now also many models under 3 metres for motorhomes and campers.

Versatile use of our toll box
With our toll box you have numerous advantages. You can use the toll box for the following:
- Parking garages: you do not need a parking ticket nor do you have to wait at the pay station at selected parking garages.
- Ferries: You can also use ferries on Messina roads with our toll box.
- Italy: In Italy, the lanes are marked with a yellow "T".
- France: In France, all lanes marked with the "T" can be used with the toll box.
- Spain: In Spain, the toll box can be used on all lanes marked with "Telepeaje", "VIA-T" or a "T".
- Portugal: In Portugal, the payment of the toll is partly exclusively possible with the toll box, whereby all lanes can be used.
- Croatia: In Croatia (without Istria), the toll box can be used by all vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes gross weight on all lanes marked with a green "ENC".

Can I transfer my toll box for vehicles up to 3 metres height to another vehicle?
- With the toll box for vehicles up to 3 metres high, it is possible to change vehicles. To do so, simply log in to your maut1.de customer account.
How does a toll box work?
There are antennas at the toll stations that transmit a signal. If there is a toll box in the vehicle, the signal is sent back from the toll box to the toll station.
The toll station recognises that it is a toll box from maut1.de and sends us the corresponding toll transaction within a few weeks.
We process these costs for you and send you an invoice for all toll transactions made.

What do I need to know for collection?
- Order your maut1.de toll box online at maut1.de with "collection" as the shipping method.
- Take a break at the Inntal West Service area just before crossing the border into Austria at Kufstein.
- Pick up your maut1.de toll box for cars on site using the barcode on your order confirmation.
- Please mount it next to the interior mirror according to the instructions and travel into your holiday free of traffic jams.
Our toll service enables simple accounting
You drive through the toll stations without any congestion and we take care of the billing. We settle your toll charges with the respective toll operator, which we usually debit monthly using your stored payment method, and then issue you with a clear invoice.
Information about the contract
You can use your toll box for as short or as long as you like. If you no longer need the toll box, simply return it to the following address:

We only invoice the fees incurred to date.
If you keep the toll box for longer than one year, the contract will be extended for another year and the annual fee of 22.90 € will be debited again. The annual fee covers the provision of the toll box, but not the individual toll charges. The tolls incurred when passing through the toll booths are separate costs and will be charged additionally. You do not have to do anything else. We will bill all tolls incurred on your trip via your deposited payment method.
Tolls in Europe
In many European countries there are compulsory tolls on the motorways. In some countries, such as Austria or Switzerland, the toll is paid with a vignette depending on the time, while in others, such as Italy, France, Spain and Portugal, it is paid at toll stations depending on the route. Payment is usually made by cash, credit card or toll box. The advantage of the toll box is the use of a reserved lane that is not available to cash or card payers. With the toll box, you are at the barrier faster and can then drive through at up to 30 km/h in complete relaxation. The toll station recognises the toll box and opens the barrier automatically. Tolles System mit sehr gutem Service
Seit wir mit Maut 1 unterwegs sind haben Mautstellen aus dem hohen Liner Fahrerhaus ihren Schrecken verloren. So geht entspanntes Reisen. Auch das Preisgefüge passt. Und natürlich die Erweiterung auf weitere Länder welche momentan in unser Reiseverhalten passen

Gibt nichts besseres
Wir waren eine Woche in Italien 🇮🇹 wir haben zum Testen mal die Mautbox bestellt und es gibt nichts besseres als die Box zu haben wir konnten sogar in Parkhäuser Parken und Parkplätze parken wo telepass akzeptiert werden da hat man wenigstens nicht die große Wartezeit an der Kasse das fanden wir sehr gut 👍 könnte man in Deutschland auch einführen! Das die Box piept hat uns nicht gestört! Wir können die nur weiter empfehlen!

Waren jetzt für eine Woche in Italien in Urlaub. Die Mautbox hat perfekt funktioniert. Kann die Mautbox nur empfehlen. Einfach ohne Stress an der Mautstelle durch die Telepassspur ein Pieps und die Schranke ging jedesmal auf.

massive Zeitersparnis
wenn man die Erfahrung der Mautbox gemacht hat, fragt man sich, weshalb man so, lange gewartet hat. Alles hat perfekt geklappt, von der Übersendung der Box bis zum letzten Auslösen der Mautgebühr. Die Zeitersparnis und vor allen Dingen der Wegfall der nervlichen Anspannung durch das Warten machen das Instrument zu einem wertvollen Utensil für einen entspannten Urlaub. Wenn es möglich ist, sollte der Einfluß genutzt werden, um die Telepaß-Spuren besser und weit vorher anzukündigen und zu kennzeichnen,

Einfach Perfekt
Bestellt und 4 Tage danach bei uns eingetroffen ( Österreich ) . An die Scheibe montiert und fertig. Einfacher geht´s nicht :) . Wir waren am Anfang sehr skeptisch ob auch wirklich alles an den Mautstationen reibungslos funktioniert. Alle Bedenken waren aber total überflüssig. Wir waren in Italien und an allen Mautstationen keinerlei Probleme :) . Die Box bleibt auch im Auto an der Scheibe und wird von uns nicht aus der Halterung genommen. Sämtliche Wetterbedingungen ( Sommer - heiß , Winter sehr kalt - bis min. 20 Grad ) sollten normalerweise für das Gerät ebenfalls kein Problem sein. In LKW ´s werden die Boxen ja auch nicht entnommen . Mal sehen . Ich hoffe Sie funktioniert auch im Winter und im Sommer nächstes Jahr weiterhin ohne Probleme. Alles in allem bis dato einfach Top .
